Just as the drama desperate housewives flashed on the tv screen, the fire alarm went off. Vi and I looked at each other wondering what the heck is that sound. Ok, I had to admit that it do not sound like a fire alarm. More like an alarm clock buzzing all the way. We only realised it after coming out of our apartment to check. Everyone was like poking their heads out of the door wondering whether they should run for the fire exit. Vi and I were hesitated at first. Is it a fire drill or someone apartment is really on fire? Of course, I wanted to stay home and watch my favourite drama.
Suddenly, the fire alarm sounded weirder and weirder. "Please evacuate your apartment now! Please evacuate your apartment now!" That definitely seem serious. We quickly rushed down the fire exit, out of college square building. Many people were gathering outside. Some just could not be bother joining the crowd, were curiously looking at us from their apartment window. Two fire brigade were parked at the entrance. The firemen quickly ran inside the building to inspect. Oh, mind! There is a fire.
It took them ages. I only had a t-shirt and short pants on and it was definitely freezing cold outside. Where were they? Later the firemen came out and we were told that we could return to our respective apartments. WHAT? Now you are telling me that actually nothing had happened. Neither a fire nor a fire drill. It was all a hoax!
Apparently, "someone" cooked and had it caught on the smoke detecter along the corridor. And the worst part of all was the fire alarm only went off on the south block and the hoax took place right on my floor. In irony, the rest of residents of other blocks were cosily in their apartment, happily enjoying desperate housewives. I hate that. What a fire experience in Australia!

It had been more than 1 week now since I left Malaysia. Time really flies. Sorry for not being updating my blog frequently. Had been pretty busy attending orientation this whole week.
Orientation was ok. Apart from all those boring talks, they had pretty good activities too. On tues, Melbourne Uni had this host program. A senior from our course would bring us around touring the campus. Moreover, I attended muoss summer social too. It was really a cool event. We were diveded into groups and there were lots of interesting game too. Really unexpected! Our group won the 3rd prize which $10 free bowling game. Cool! Plus I got to make new friends from all over the world.
Tomorrow is the official date that I will be starting my uni life. I really could not believe it. Finally after working so hard all these year, I was lucky to get a place in Melbourne Univeristy, the best uni in aus. Thank god. Hope that it would be a great and wonderful start of my life. Studying in uni is totally different. I only got 12hours of classes in one week which is equivalent to 2 days studying in my previous secondary school. And I only take 4 subjects in one semester. Hehe I really cannot imagine that how I took 10subjects in SPM. Definitely a killer year. That is all for now. More news to come next week.

A warm welcome to 2s02 apartment. 2s02? 2 stands for second floor, S is for south building and 02 is our apartment number. Cool right?

D' Living room. So happy got tv n dvd player provided. I thought that I was going to miss deperate housewives.

Kicthen. Had been doing a lot of cooking lately =)

My cozy bed. Everything was from australia except my pillow busuk n russell boy.

Finally my private place. Sorry a bit messy here. But I am loving it. It is so big.

The view outside my room window: bbq pit. Everyday get to smell nice bbq food. That is the reason why I get hungry very fast =P

Another view from my room window. The swimming pool. Hehe was lucky that my room did not face the cemetery site.

I arrived at Melbourne safely on wednesday morning. The flight was excellent. Thanks a lot uncle danny for upgrading us to business class. I definitely love flying now =) It was weird that I expected to cry when I reached Australia but my sadness leaving Malaysia disappeared quickly. Melbourne was so beautiful. Cute little houses, aesthetic national library, cool city, wonderful university and friendly australians.
On the first day we arrived, Tim, JeySern, Vivienne and I went shopping for our most important stuff of all which is pillow!! Just the first time here, definitely 4 brave souls like us walked all the way down to explore Melbourne city. It turned out to be a long 30 minutes journey. Had our lunch in China Town. Boy, everything was so expensive. $7 for one big plate of char siew fun and definitely malaysia's char siew fun taste so much better. Luckily we ordered 3 plates and shared it among ourselves. Went shopping in The Big W and Safeway. Bought so many things:pillows, pails, plates, food, dish rack and many more. Can you imagine it? We carry the heavy load of stuffs all the way back to college square. Everyone was on the street was looking at us. The stuffs were so heavy and tiring but actually we had a fun time helping each other. Eat tuna sandwich for dinner preapred by timothy. Not bad =)
The second day was great too. Had lunch in Union Hall. The cafetarie was so cool like mid valley version of food court. Later we attended international student briefing. After breifing we went to the city again but this time sitting trem. Hehe, learnt our lessons. $26.70 for a trem ticket. Burnt a hole in my pocket! Luckily I can use it for 10x. The seniors were helpful, they brought us to a shop selling great deals of comforter. Bought one for $50. Really need that to survive. It was darn cold at night eventhough it was still summer.
Staying in Melbourne was definitely different. So much experiences, had to be independent and had been spending a lot of money. I pray that I did not over spend. There is still more to come. Till then. From Melbourne with love.

Hello Melbourne, Goodbye Malaysia!

Thursday, February 9

In 4 more days I will be leaving Malaysia for Melbourne. What should I say here? Am I sad? Am I happy? Am I worried? Actually I really do not know how I feel right now. More of a mixed feeling.
I was never an advantaged kid. That is to say, there were no ballet lessons, no piano classes, no getting the toys I wanted and no annual long-trip-on-plane to fancy countries far away from Malaysia. The farthest I had been to was only Johor Baharu. Certainly a katak dibawah beberapa lapis tempurung. Never stepped out of Malaysia before in my entire 19 years of life. However that is going to change. On 14 February 2006, I shall be on a jet plane for at least 8 hours long. I shall be flying to Melbourne for the first time. I shall be experiencing Aussie culture to the fullest. And I am thrilled!
Apart from thrilled, sadness burdens me even more. Family and friends are going to be separated. No more mummy or puppy. Really have to depend on myself, stand on my own two feet in a totally foreign place. Life has to start and rebuild again. Meet new people and friends. It is definitely time to change myself from shy to social able. If only I could see the future, then things would definitely turned out to be better. Hoping for the very best.
Here is goodbye to my dearest family, friends and Malaysia. Till then from Melbourne.
To mum and dad : Love and miss both of you. Take good care. May god bless you always.
To didi shen: Good luck and all the best in your SPM. Be mummy good girl =) Love and miss you, didi. Got nobody to bully me anymore.
To all my friends: Good luck and all the best in your future undertakings. Keep in touch.

~Memories Forever~
Unexpected! Ushering the new doggie year was fun. I thought that this year chinese new year would be much the same like the previous but it turned out the opposite way.
First day of cny was crucial. Spent the whole day visiting my paternal grandmother, aunties, uncles and cousins. My dad got a very big family. 12 siblings, 7 brothers and 5sisters.Cousins? Uncountable with fingers. Second day of cny was wonderful. Went to my 3rd aunty house for lunch and later in the evening we had our reunion dinner. It was great to see everyone reunited after a year long. While on the third day, my sis and I went to mid valley for shopping spree. Proud to be a tour guide. Maybe I can take up tour guiding instead of accounting =P
On the other hand, spent the sixth and seventh day of new year with my friends. Sad to say that it would be our last gathering before everyone goes their separate ways. Siew Sian to New Zealand, Swee Fung to UK, Qiu Sze to Perth and Me to Melbourne.Boy, I had already miss my best friend when she left for US in form 5. Sob Sob, going to miss more friends now.
Last but not least, I got more ang pau money. 3x than last year. This was the catch. Leaving for Melbourne in 14 February gave me the ultimate advantage in collecting ang pau money. My aunties and uncles gave me extra specially for bon voyage to Australia. Thanks a lot. In just a few days more chinese new year is coming to an end and I will be flying soon.Too soon.
