Sorry for not being updating my blog frequently. Had been pretty busy. Time really flies! It had already been 1 month. As most of the people said, first year studying in uni is a breeze. However, way not for me. The subjects are getting tougher and I am definitely sliping off from QM subject. Do not quite understand what the lecturer is talking. Although now I had 11 hours per week in my timetable minus that weird subject transition to commerce, I just could not find enough time. Workload keep on piling up. Tests, assigments and tutorials. Apart from me, Melbourne is busy like a bee too.
Commonwealth Games is happening right now but left a few more days to go. I do not really get a chance to watch any of the event live expect from tv. Tickets here are pretty expensive. About $500++ for the opening ceremony and above $50 to watch the events for finals. Last wednesday, I joined the Melbourne crowd. Went to watched the opening ceremony in Federation Square. Celebration was only not held in the Melbourne Cricket Ground Stadium but also along the Yarra river too. I really enjoyed myself. The place was beautifully decorated with colourful fishes and 72 floating flats along the river right up to the stadium. Plus big screen tv was available for us to watch the ceremony too. The performances were ok with flying trams, ballet dancers, human koala bear and skaters. Expect it was kind of weird to have the boy with the duck performing. You will know what I mean, if you had watched the opening ceremony =) Hehe, I still think Malaysia opening ceremony for the commonwealth games was still the best. However the best part of all, was to see the magnificent fireworks live for the first time in my life.
p/s:Now I know that why I always have not enough time =P

Flinders Street Station

Federation Square

During the opening ceremony. Packed with so many people

The Yarra River

The Fish ( Nothing special? Wait till you see this)

Transformed into a red flying fish

Fireworks decorating the night sky

And finally the people

The bowling gang
Just 2 weeks of uni. What can I expect? Lots of tutorial homeworks, assignments, test and reading to do. Lectures were so huge especially for economics and commerce faculty, about 400+ students in one theatre. Each time going to one lecture will meet a different batch of people. Quite a sad case for me. Yes I do meet lots of new friends but it is hard to find true ones. Some lectures were pertty boring. Nearly fall asleep or my brain just shut dead after 7 months of lazing around.
Intro microeconomics tutorial was great!! About 18 students in one tut and my tutor was really leng chai. Hehe a mat saleh. Accounting tutorial was not that bad too. My tutor is a lady. She is very sweet and nice. At the end of the day we got free chocolates: my favourite food =) Quantitative Methods, you will probably wondering what subject is that? QM is actually bussiness stats. I just had my tut last friday and my tutor is a lady too. Guess what? Both of my tutor for QM and acc had the same name: Stephanie except one is asian and the other one is mat saleh. What a coincidence!
Apart from all the tutorial homeworks, I am pretty busy with assignment too. Accounting assignment is due next week and I have not even start a single thing yet. To top up, my work load, I had principal of bussiness law test this friday. 15% of my overall grade. Boy, that is a lot and again I had not study yet. Luckily I did legal studies in foundation year. It really help me a lot.
All work and no play definitely make Shir Li a dull girl =). On saturday, went bowling with my new friends. We meet during muoss summer social oreintation and now we were at melbourne central to play our free bowling ticket that we won!! The bowling alley was damn cool. So much better than Malaysia. As usual, I not good in bowling. My ball always went down the lane and I barely scored 30 points. However I did enjoy myself. Later we played games at the game valley. It was so much fun. I barely remembered when was the last time I played daytona, time crisis and air hockey.
In the evening, had bbq dinner with all the 2nd year jpa students. It was a great oppurtunity to meet all the seniors coz it had already been 3 weeks in melbourne and I hardly know any of them. The food was good too especially bbq chicken =) Hehe I love eating. The seniors were really nice and friendly. After dinner, we had ice-breaking and played the mafia game. Unexpected! The game turned out to be so much fun compared to the last time I played it.
That is all for now. I need to get started on PBL. More news from Melbourne.

Try to guess which one is mine?

There are definitely lots of difference between Malaysia and Australia. First and foremost, studying in Melbourne had really made me a more independent person. A total change from lazy Shir Li to a hardworking one =) I had never wanted to go to the market, cook or even clean the house back in Malaysia but here no choice. I had to metamorphose into a see-lai aka aunty. Now it have been my routine to go to the Vic market, cook everyday, wash the clothes and vacuum the apartment. Do you think I will make a good housewife?
That is not the only difference. In Malaysia, I do not need to worry about money. Anytime, anyday burnt a hole in my pocket, I could just run to my mum or dad. But in Australia, money is the first priority. If I over spent, I really had to live on sand. Furthermore, I am a very shy girl. I do not like to speak out. If you did not talk to me, I will just keep my mouth shut. Back in secondary school, not much friends were on my buddy list. But it is totally different here. I cannot be shy. I had to speak, make more friends and socialise in order to survive my uni life.
Apart from about myself, animals too differ from Malaysia to Australia. Ok, ultimately crows are black in colour. However in Melbourne the crows are a bit special. They grow white feathers on their body. First time I hear a black and white crow. Not to mention too, that the houseflies here are much more bigger, dumber and slower. In Malaysia, you cannot even kill a housefly with your bare hands. They are extremely fast and tiny. But suprisingly in Melbourne, with just one hit, the housefly is dead. What a big difference between these 2 countries!
