Finally, my mid-semester exams are over. Definitely a sigh of relief. Intermediate Financial Accounting test was quite hard. I felt a bit disappointed. I studied so hard and yet I got mixed up with the asset acquisition theory, whether it was direct or indirect. Plus I did not have much time to complete 30 questions in 40 minutes. Why do we had so many calculations to do? However Cost Management and Business Finance were not as bad as I thought. CM was pretty easy and I could not believe myself that I completed it in 20 minutes. BF was a smooth ride. I managed to get all the answers. Hopefully will I do well; results will most probably be out in first week of May.

I got my first job as a clerical staff in Citi Consulting, an accounting firm in Melbourne. You would not even believe me. Yup, Shir Li is working for the very first time in her life. I went for interview last Friday and they offered me a job. I started on this Monday. It was so soon. That fact had not really sunk in yet for me too. I will be working on Mondays and Fridays. Even though the wage is not that high, $12 per hour, what matters the most to me is experience.

I was pretty nervous for my first day at work. What work are they going to assign me? Are the people there friendly? What if I failed to do my job? I was introduced to all the workers when I first arrived. Everyone was so busy doing their own work. I was a bit relief when I met the two other part time workers, Julia and Sabi. Yeah! They are studying in Melbourne University too. It was great to make new friends. Casey the director of the company assigned me to a job. It was way a very tedious one. I was supposed to find about 8 names from a parliamentary electoral (it’s like a telephone directors) and write down their new addresses. You might think it was an easy one. Hell no! Not only searching from one book but 56 books! For 5 hours, Julia and I were searching and guess what; we only managed to find 3 names that match. That was insane. By the end of the day, the names kept repeating on my head: Burns, Bidios, Grant, and Elder and etc. Casey was so nice to us. He explained that if this not the best way to do a job, you must always find a solution for it. He was always teaching us constantly.

After my job at 6pm, I was way so tired. What I learnt from my first at work was I was nobody in the company. As the saying goes, you have to start from the very bottom of the corporate ladder. Who cares about uni student? I need to have a degree, professional qualification or even master to be a somebody one day. Everyone was so busy engaging in their own job and no one even bothers about you. I can see that some workers are working so hard, sitting in the office for more than 9hours. I wonder how they can do that. I don’t think that I will ever like my job as an accountant next time. No way am I going to sit in the office the whole day staring at the computer screen. I love adventure. Who knows you might see me running my own business or even become a “si lai” one day =)

One of my favourite picture in Tasmania. Back view Cradle Mountain.

Finally, I have decided to update my blog after so much bugging from my friends even in my tag board and friendster’s page =P

I am currently having my one week Easter break but sad to say I will be going back to university soon. Easter break was FUN!! Yup, lots of fun except for the studying part. I just came back from Tasmania. It’s a 4days trip and back by to Melbourne by cruise (Spirit of Tasmania). Hehe that was the coolest part- sailing in a big ship for 10 hours. Most probably I will upload all the holiday pictures after my mid semester test.

Right now, I’m having test syndrome. I’m not really stress but just not looking forward for next week. I HATE next week! It’s definitely going to be a crazy one. Wish that I’m still in Tasmania.

-Monday: I’m going for the economics’ experiment. (Don’t know why I signed up for it. I should use the time to study instead. But the pay rate is high. Sighz…. I’m so $$ minded I need a job.)

-Wednesday: Intermediate Financial Accounting test. (Hope to do well. I love this subject the most compared to Cost Management.)

-Thursday: The worst day ever!!! Business Finance and Cost Management tests. Right after one another. (I am definitely going to be a dead meat) Organisational Behaviour group assignment due too. I wonder how’s the assignment going so far?

    I want another break =(
